Need an upgrade? Computer booting real slow? Getting your pc to boot (or start up) faster has always been a major goal for pc enthusiasts and home users. Sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes for some. This could be caused by viruses, corrupt files, bad drivers, or even a bad hard drive. Well, your worries are over. The Parlour now carries Solid State Hard Drives. This is the single most significant upgrade you can make. The Solid State Drives have no moving parts or discs. They are, in essence, ram drives. Depending on your motherboard, you can have boot times as fast as 5 seconds! They have serial ATA connection and perform faster when plugged into sata 2 and sata 3 ports. Having experienced them myself, I can definitely say they are fast. Being plugged into a regular sata port, we acheived boot times between 10 and 15 seconds. I have a feeling these will be the next big thing in pc upgrades. So, if you have time to mow the lawn or shovel the driveway before your computer boots, come in to The Parlour with your trades and pick up a Solid State Drive, you won’t be sorry.
In the last couple of weeks, alot of people have been coming into The Parlour asking about parts and if we do custom builds. The answer is yes. I have been building systems for quite some time now and would like to extend the service to all of you. Whether you get the parts here or elsewhere, you can bring them to me at The Parlour and I can piece it all together and set it up for you. A great example of one of our custom builds is The Maelstrom. Housing 4gb’s of ddr 3 ram and a Phenom 2 Quadcore at 3.0GHz, this puppy can move. Even control your fan speeds by the included Sentry 1 digital temperature gauge. For gaming, The Maelstrom boasts a 1GB GTS250 video card for brilliant graphics. Storage in the Maelstrom is extreme with a 1TB Sata hard drive. If you fill this drive then maybe you’d be interested in our 2 TB External Drives, or, put it on Blu Ray with one of our Blu Ray Writers from LG. Mmmmm, Blu Ray. Custom builds are becoming increasingly more popular by the day. Come in and see The Maelstrom at The Parlour, 1299 mountain Rd. And if you’re a little on the dark side, indulge in the Dark Fleet Gamer, the dark side of technology. Until next time….

The Parlour mourns the loss of one of the co-founders of the company. Pamela Jean Whittaker (nee Atkinson) passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the age of 59 years.
A passionate, sensitive, and generous person, Pam never forgot a birthday or anniversary, and always arrived at a loved one’s home bearing food and gifts. Pam was highly organized, and heavily involved in growing the store for more than 25 years. She especially loved planning parties and special events for friends, family, and employees. She volunteered countless hours and organized many events with the Catholic Women’s League, and was elected to many CWL leadership roles. Pam also loved animals, especially her cats.
She is survived by her mother, Phyllis Jean Atkinson; sister Penny Teed (Sanford); daughter Rhonda Whittaker (Troy McInnis); twin sons, Peter Whittaker and David Whittaker; friend and former husband, Ron Whittaker. She was a doting “Nana Pam” to grandsons Logan and Tanner Whittaker (sons of David Whittaker and Dana Kenny).
She was predeceased by her father, Hedley Evans “Chic” Atkinson.

The Parlour tone trolls are doing the tone patrol again for this month’s blog.
O.K.! We know how to adjust our amps. We found a great guitar that sounds awesome and responsive at any volume through the amp. We have quality lead and patch cords, and our pedals don’t suck away our tone. We have even gotten rid of the plastic bread tags, dug a little deeper in the old pockets, and bought real guitar picks. String gauge feels great.
We plug in, turn up, and… still sound like ourselves. Not Kirk Hammet, Kerry King, Dimebag, SRV, Danny Gatton. We still sound like ourselves.
This is the point that sperates the men from the boys. Accept and trust your own sound. Be the best you, you can be.

In StarCraft II, it’s still the Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss clashing against each other, and you’re still mining minerals with SCVs, Drones, and Probes and pulling Vespene Gas from the ground to fuel production. It’s a classic style of real-time strategy play, one old-school RTS gamers should be very familiar with. Compared to the changes Blizzard made between the traditional gameplay of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and the hero-based leveling elements of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, StarCraft II feels like a relatively safe play; a game designed to slide in and discreetly supplant its predecessor instead of ruffle the feathers of longtime StarCraft devotees and risk rejection. While it’s not a revolutionary game, it is one of the most fully featured, expertly designed, and impressively refined real-time strategy experiences on the market.
Even though at its most basic level a lot of the game is familiar, much has been adjusted. In no area is this more apparent than in the single-player campaign. Blizzard’s decision to split the overall story of StarCraft II into three parts sparked some controversy when it was first announced; basically that means you only get to play as the Terran faction (with a few exceptions) for the solo portion, and must wait until later for the Zerg and Protoss campaigns to be released to see the entirety of the story. While that affects some of the impact of the tale, it in no way means you’ll be starved for content if all you’re looking to do in StarCraft II is play alone. There’s a huge campaign here that could easily take many hours to play through (depending on your style and level of difficulty). It’s all exceedingly well presented, with a totally reworked narrative delivery system, a few instances of choice driving the story, and options for inter-mission upgrades that make it feel like more of an role-playing experience than a series of mission that exist solely to get you ready for the multiplayer.

Hi from The Parlour. We’re all about tone.
Attack or “rise time” of a note, refers to the response of a guitar when played. Guitars with quick rise times can sound more responsive. Quick rise times offer better definition between notes. Some guitars like this can sound hard or thin by how the note lasts or decays after being played.
