We have been on the topic of condition. The type of condition an instrument is in greatly effects our decision of pawning or buying here at The Parlour.
Wear is not always bad. Breaks, cracks, warps, etc., are one thing. An instrument that has been played a lot for many years usually exhibits a “worn in ” look, rather than a “worn out” look. Rounded edges on fret boards, finish missing on the back of the neck, fret board, or where a person’s arm rubs across the body of the instrument when it’s being played. also the plating on the pickups or bridge changes color or fades with time. Body finishes also change with time. All this can accumulate to give an instrument that”well loved” look. Usually this kind of item has a spectacular or all around great sound. Why else would an instrument get played enough to be worn?
