Travis Furlong: Music Dept. Head

Posted on February 16, 2010 Posted in: Blog

Travis Furlong started playing guitar at age 3. By his late teens, he lived, breathed, slept and ate guitars. After playing bars for six years, Travis and legendary Acadian drummer, Ron Dupuis started Glamour Puss Blues Band.

In fifteen years, the band made twenty trips across Canada, three European tours, and numerous gigs in the United States playing clubs, festivals, and soft seaters. Along the way, he won four EMCA’s, countless readers polls, and racked up dozens of nominations for awards across North America and Europe.

Travis got to open for many big name acts such as Colin James, Jeff Healey, Trooper, April Wine, Downchild Blues Band, Rick Jeffery, Micheal Jerome Brown, John Hamond Junior, Shamekia Copeland, Blue Rodeo, Sonny Landreth, BB King, David “Honey Boy” Edwards (Travelling partner of the legendary Robert Johnson), Susan Tedeschi, Sean Costello, Breen Lebaeuf, Steve Hill, Bob Walsh, 1755, Wicked Grin, Omar and the Howlers, Siroit, Bois Jolie, Little Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Cha’s, Buckwheat Zydeco and, The Prime Minister of the Blues Dutch Mason.

Along the way Travis got to hang with many cool people such as Tom Lavin (Powder Blues), Jimmy Flinn, Kelly Jay (Crowbar), members of Canned Heat, Texas Tornado’s, Little Milton, Les Paul, John Scofield, Sue Foley, Jimmy Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Steve Vai, Pat Benetar, Robert Belefour, George Thorougood, Shirley Jackson, and he smoked a rather large and VERY expensive cigar with Butros Butros Ghali (former head of the United Nations).

Travis still plays music locally.  He now happily calls The Parlour homebase and lives (somewhat) quietly with his wife, children and 17 pets.
